You Have a Gift by Joe Barnett

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us.
Romans 12:6

“You can be anything you want to be.”

“You can do anything you want to do.”

Neither of these frequently-quoted statements is true. Some things are beyond the reach of our knowledge and skills.

But here’s something to get excited about: you can be anything God wants you to be and do anything God wants you to do because he has given you the abilities that match the assignments he wants you to take on.

Thumb over to Romans 12 and read verses 6-8. You’ll probably find your gift somewhere in that list – the who God wants you to be and what God wants you to do. Talent sets limits, but you decide what you do within those limits.

Tuesday Ladies Class: 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday Evening Class: 7:00 p.m.

Keep in Prayer!
John Bixby, the former member, recently had knee surgery. Katie will keep us updated. He is entering rehab.

It’s good to have the Nunnallys back in Galveston. Colorado is too cold in the winter; Galveston is a bit warmer! We are glad they are winter Texans!!

Sara Campbell is visiting her sister in Arkansas.

Velma Williams is in Ft. Worth for the holidays.

Bob and Ann Roland called yesterday to tell everyone hello.

Kaylene Coffey wants to say hello to everyone, especially Diane Scott. She has had to be in St. Louis taking care of her father. Her father and mother visited often over the years. Sister Coffey has passed away and Brother Coffey is in bad health.

Remember to pray for the West Fwy. Church of Christ in White Settlement, TX, outside Ft. Worth. Last Sunday a gunman shot and killed two members during communion.
Mission Giving!
The total amount collected for missions in December was $19,450. This surpasses the $18,000 collected in 2018.
Some of this has already been disbursed, the remainder will be distributed monthly throughout this year.

You may find it interesting that 28% of our total expenditures for 2019 were towards missions. Benevolence, mostly within the congregation, was 11%, and teaching was 19% of our total spending. The remaining 42% was mainly building costs: insurance, utilities, supplies, and repairs. Hence close to 60% of what you give goes directly in support of the church’s commission given in Matthew 28. Few churches with less than 70 members can make this statement.

How’s this possible? First, it’s your extreme generosity. Also, we need to acknowledge those who came before us with the wisdom to pay off the building debt. And, we are so extremely blessed to have Allen Isbell who over his 43 years of service to Broadway, has not drawn a salary.

Thank You, Broadway, for all that you do for others!
