Three Trees by Joe Barnett
You had him killed by hanging him on a tree. Acts 5:30
A large window in my mother’s kitchen framed a beautiful oak tree. She had breakfast every morning watching the sun do its magic on her tree. Mother loved that tree.
It started me thinking about some other trees.
There was the fig tree Jesus told about that was bearing no fruit. “Cut it down!” ordered its owner (Luke 13:7). “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire,” Jesus said (Matt. 7:19).
Most of all, I thought about a transplanted tree: the cross on which Jesus died was carved from a tree. I wonder where it grew, and who cut it down and shaped it into a cross. It holds a unique – awful and wonderful – place in history.
The cross was the tree of death for Jesus,
the tree of life for us.

Last Sunday, Lisa Joslin, wife of Joe, was baptized. Lisa and Joe have been attending for several weeks. Amy Davis was instrumental in introducing them to the church. Lisa follows Joe as he was baptized a few weeks earlier. Please welcome this couple to Broadway.
We are saddened to learn that Trey Mills’ mother passed away last Monday night. Her name was Shirley Mills; she had a long battle with Alzheimer’s. As a young woman, she lived on the Island and worked for American National and the Kempner’s. She loved to tell some very interesting stories about the Balinese room! Keep Trey and Sarah in your prayers.
Mike Zuniga’s brother Henry passed away recently in Roswell, NM.
Keep in Prayer!
Dean Knox is at home recovering. Keep him in your prayers.
Nell Williams, the wife of Boyd, recently fell and also suffered a stroke. Broadway sponsored the Williams in their mission efforts. They are the grandparents of Elaine Williams. Please keep this family in your prayers. Elaine went last weekend to see her. The latest update is that Nell is now in hospice.
Mike and Hope Zuniga is recovering from flu and son Sam experiencing serious health issues.

New Mexico Christian Children’s Home!
Jason Freed arrived Friday and loaded his truck and trailer to deliver the food and other staples for N.M. Children’s Home. He expressed thanks for Broadway’s generosity. Broadway filled 25% of the capacity of his truck and trailer. He has six more churches to visit for pick-up on this trip. Thank you to everyone who participated.
News from Patti!
We recently received a card from Dr. Patti Patterson, a former Broadway member, and UTMB medical student. On November 9th, she married Michael Joiner, who preached many years in Carlsbad and knew Aubrey Duncan. They live in Lubbock, where she still is a professor in the Texas Tech Medical School. We extend our best wishes to this new family.
