Celebrate, Don’t Bellyache by Joe Barnett

God has heard your grumblings. Exodus 16:8

It’s Thanksgiving week. Resolve to make it a week of thankfulness. Gratitude is a choice. So is grumbling.

Numbers 13:14 shows us what God thinks about grumbling. It was a death sentence for hundreds of thousands of Israelites. The hike from Egypt to Canaan, which could have been made in a month, stretched to forty years. God waited for the gripers to die in the wilderness before planting their children in the Promised Land.

English churchman and historian Thomas Fuller said, “We are born crying, live complaining, and die disappointed.”

Gratitude is a learned attitude. You don’t have to learn how to gripe and grumble; you were born with those items in your diaper bag. But you do have to learn how to be grateful.

Be alert to blessings this week. Celebrate, don’t bellyache.

Gratitude is where happiness begins.

Joseph Joslin was recently baptized. He and his wife, Lisa, have been attending for a few weeks. They are friends of Amy Davis, who brought them to Broadway. Be sure to meet this couple and welcome them to our church family.

Thank You!
Larry and Lisa Williams, frequent visitors to Broadway, generously donated a box of Bibles that may be given to people needing a Bible. The Williams are from Conroe and attend the Longmire Church of Christ. Allen occasionally speaks there during their Summer Series.
We received a generous contribution as a memorial to Jim Gowdy from his long-time friend Thomas Alford.

Next Sunday!

The City of Galveston will celebrate the annual Dickens on the Strand Festival next weekend: December 6th, 7th, & 8th.
This event will bring people from many places to the Island. In our tradition here at Broadway, we encourage our members to wear their Victorian finery to services.

Joe Barnett will be in his topcoat and hat. As is our custom, Joe will be the speaker for Sunday.

New Mexico Christian Children’s Home!

The Children’s Home has a particular need for canned goods and other non-perishable foods, along with cleaning supplies and paper goods.
The Tuesday Ladies Class has agreed to be in charge and coordinate this collection.
We encourage everyone to participate in this worthy endeavor.
We’ve enjoyed having Dale and Judy Schneider with us these past few weeks. They will return to Oklahoma for Christmas. We encourage them to return soon.
