Find Your Purpose by Joe Barnett

God will fulfill his purpose for me. Psalm 57:2

Scottish runner Eric Liddell was favored to win the 100-meter race in the 1924 Paris Olympics. He withdrew from the event because it was scheduled on Sunday, and his religious convictions vetoed competing on Sunday. He switched to Friday’s 400-meter dash, broke the world record and won the gold.

Eric said, “I believe that God made me for a purpose. But he also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure.”

After the Olympics, Eric went to China as a missionary, where he served until his death in 1945.

“God chose you from the beginning” (2nd Thessalonians 2:13) and planted you here at this time and in this place for a God-planned purpose (Ephesians 2:10).

Find your purpose, echoing Jesus’ words, “For this reason, I was born, and for this, I came into the world” (John 18:37).

Your talents are God-given. How you use them is up to you.

News From San Angelo!
The following letter was received from Miguel Zuniga:

Greetings to all our beloved friends and brethren in Galveston:
We continue to serve the Northside Church of Christ in San Angelo. Also, I have preached recently at the Eldorado Church of Christ and West Angelo Church of Christ.
At Northside church, our attendance continues to increase. Last Sunday we had 55 present for service and the pot luck dinner that followed. Average attendance exceeds 30 every week. A significant difference from when we first arrived.
Southwest Bible Institute is doing well. This semester I am teaching a course titled “How We Got the Bible”. The editor of a bilingual newspaper, The CONEXION, was present at our “opening night”.
Please keep us in your prayers for God’s greater success in our ministry.

New Mexico Christian Children’s Home!
Jason and Natalie Freed, former members, are traveling to the Houston-Galveston area in mid-December to collect donations from several congregations. Broadway has agreed to participate.
The Children’s Home has a special need for canned goods and other non-perishable foods, along with cleaning supplies and paper goods. Jason hopes to fill not only the bed of his pickup truck but also a sixteen-foot long trailer. He frequently makes similar trips across the Southwest.
The Tuesday Ladies Class has agreed to be in charge and coordinate this collection. Items should be taken to the classroom where the ladies meet and placed upon the tables.
We encourage everyone to participate in this worthy endeavor.

Letter from Callie!
Dear Broadway Church of Christ,
Thank you for being a safe place for Bear and I to attend after Hurricane Harvey. Bear was serving as my eyes, ears, and helping with my mobility. I have recently moved to Frederick County, Maryland. The Catoctin Mountains are beautiful and the dogs love going hiking with me.
Once again, thank you for all your love and assistance. I miss the Sunday services and the Tuesday Ladies Class.
I miss you all and think of you often.
Sincerely, Callie Veale
