Tongue Control by Joe Barnett
I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin.
On November 10, 2016, Daniel Fitzpatrick, thirteen, of Staten Island, NY, wrote a heartbreaking letter detailing how he had been taunted and tormented by schoolmates: then Daniel went to the attic of the family home, wrapped a belt around his neck and hanged himself.
Bullying is the number-one cause of teen suicide. “The tongue has the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21). Victims of abusive language live lives of loneliness and feelings of worthlessness. “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless” (James 1:26).
“Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 140:3). Freedom of speech does not include the right to hurt.

New Pew Bibles!
Last week you found new songbooks in the pews. This Sunday you will find new pew Bibles!
Our ten-year-old pew Bibles were beginning to show their age. And, many had found new homes. So, we were short a few. There are two Bibles at the end of each row. Our old ones are available for you to take.
They will be found on the tables at the rear of the auditorium, along with the old songbooks. Please feel free to take one with you.
Next Sunday, November 3rd, begins Standard Time. Our favorite time, Daylight Saving Time, is coming to its close. If you forget how to set your clock, remember the saying: “Fall back an hour in the Fall and Spring forward an hour in the Spring.” For those of you who will forget, Allen looks forward to your attendance at his ten o’clock Bible class!
Lone Star Biker Rally!
For those new to the Island, November brings the Annual Lone Star Biker Rally. The official dates this year are October 31st-November 3rd.
Over this period 500,000 are expected to attend. Anticipate heavy traffic, especially the Seawall, Broadway and the Strand area.
This event has a significant economic impact for our city. Any inconvenience we experience is more than offset by the benefit to our local economy.
So…plan accordingly and welcome our guests. We usually have several bikers in our assembly.
