Look For Magic Moments by Joe Barnett

Do everything without grumbling.  Philippians 2:14

Julia Hawkins lives in Baton Rouge, LA, where she takes daily walks and tends her garden.

Julia took up running at age 100; set a record in the 100-yard dash at age 101, and just finished the 50 and 100 dash races at the National Senior Games in Albuquerque, NM, at age 103.

Asked if she had any advice about happy longevity, Julia replied: “Keep active, exercise, keep in good shape if you can.  And look for magic moments – like sunsets, rainbows, beautiful birds, and people’s positive comments. All of those are magic moments, and they’re free.  Keep your eye open for them.”

Great advice.  We have a choice:  we can be energized by magic moments or debilitated by tragic moments.  We can focus on blessings or adversities; we can choose to be happy or to be miserable.

Your reaction to every experience is your choice.

Letter to Broadway!

We received the following letter from Callie Veale who attended Broadway after Hurricane Harvey:

I want to thank the Broadway congregation for being so kind to Bear, my German Shepherd mixed puppy, and me when we came to Galveston Island in November 2017.  Everyone was so kind to us.  I’m living and working in Texas City now.  Recently I received a flyer to attend a Gospel Revival.  It’s Friday and Saturday nights, and also Sunday morning and afternoon.  It’s at the Texas City Church of Christ on 710 14th Street North.

It’s a few blocks from where I’m currently staying.  I have been working on Sundays since September 2018, and have been unable to attend Broadway.

I’m very nervous about going to a new church. Linda Stevens said that she’d go with me this Sunday afternoon.  I miss Allen’s sermons very much.  I miss John’s class on Sunday morning.  I wanted the congregation to know how much of a positive impact you had on my life.
