Overcoming Bad Habits by Joe Barnett

Those who do not control themselves are like a city whose walls are broken down.  – Proverbs 25:28

Do you have any bad habits?  If you say “No,” I need to remind you that lying is a bad habit.

If you want to conquer a habit, here’s a trio of suggestions:

Admit it. Reject rationalizations: “That’s just me.  That’s who I am.  I’ve always been like that.” Such cop-outs justify lousy behavior; instead of fighting it, they evade it. If you don’t admit it, you can’t defeat it.

Be realistic.  It won’t be easy.  It won’t be fast.  It won’t be without stumbles – but occasional failure is better than permanent bondage.

Pat your self on the back.  You’re on the road to winning. Stick with it.  You’ll get there.

Losing a bad habit isn’t a loss.

Leaving Broadway!

We are saddened that Wyniss Hellner, who has only been with us a short time, will be moving back to the Dallas area next week.  She will be near her sister and grandchildren.  Our best to you Wyniss, and come back when you can!

Potpourri!

Linda Stevens’ photo was in the Daily News, giving a scholarship from the Kiwanis Club to a deserving student.

Twenty-eight people gathered at the Isbells’ home for the 4th of July hot dog party.  Sierra brought a guest, Gabby; Sara’s guest, Meikka, was from Virginia; Linda’s guest, Nick, made a delicious Strawberry/Rhubarb pie.

We had never tasted a Rhubarb pie! Dixie, the Isbells’ neighbor, attended the party.  Dean’s niece, Carol and her husband Pecos were his guests. Joan’s daughter, Ange and her friend, Deanne, came.

Ange was featured in the 180th Anniversary Galveston Parade.  She looked stunning in her red dress and tiara!  Ange is Ms. South Texas and will compete in the Ms. America Pageant on the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach on August 24th.

Thanks to Duncan, who worked with Mikey all week to make the yard attractive and set up tables and chairs.  After working on setting it up, Duncan went home and fell asleep and missed the party!  And thanks to Doug who came early and stayed late helping to set up and put away party items.

Welcome home, Larry and Pat!  They were in California for the Johnson Family Reunion.  Over 103 relatives attended.  Two years from now, it will be held in Nashville.  We remember the year Larry hosted it here in Galveston.

Duncan also attended his family reunion this weekend.
