Coming Soon to a Location Near You by Joe Barnett

Who will get what you have stored up? – Luke 12:20

There’s a good chance that a self-storage building will soon be coming to a location near you. Before long they may outnumber McDonald’s. The largest building on my block is self-storage. I sometimes wonder what people are mothballing there, and why, and if those things will ever be used again.
Those who chart such things say that a hundred years ago the average American had seventy-two “wants”, with sixteen of them ranked as “necessities”. Today it has ballooned to four hundred eighty-four “wants”, with ninety-four of them considered “necessities”. If my grandma and I can be labeled “average Americans”, her “want” list was shorter than my “got-to-have-it” list.
Downsizing isn’t a bad idea. Neither is getting rid of stuff you no longer use. It won’t be long until everything you own will belong to someone else anyway.

A short want list is a big blessing.

News from Mariana!
A safe flight. And met at the Belfast airport by Bert and Doreen Ritchie. He is Coleraine’s preacher and she’s one of my favorites! So good to see them again. Back “home” in Castlerock. Will be back to “normal” by Sunday and be so very ready to see my church family…Mere babies when I was here 50 years ago! A sweet reunion!

ALWAYS grateful! Mariana

Counseling Corner!
To change thoughts and feelings of depression – we must begin by changing our thinking.

Enjoy our Wonderful Weather!

Potpourri!
It’s good to have Colin Adams back with us and leading our song service. Colin has accepted a new position which will allow him to be with us more regularly on Sunday.

Have you seen any episodes of the new TV series “Big Texas Fix” on the DYI channel? If not, don’t be surprised if you see Emily and Kylie Garvin touring one of the houses! This program features the restoration of historic homes in Galveston by two former students of TAMUG.

Congratulations to Joe Knox who was selected by the TAMUG student body as the namesake for Salt Camp (the equivalent of fish camp at most universities) this summer. The camp will be named Camp Knox.

We are glad to have Dr. Mark Martin and his wife Cebia and daughter Sommer with us today. Mark and Cebia lived in Galveston and attended Broadway while he attended UTMB.
