Two Glorious Gifts by Joe Barnett

By grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:5

Do you know the difference between mercy and grace? Mercy abstains from giving us the condemnation that we deserve; grace gives us the salvation that we don’t deserve.

God delights to show mercy (Micah 7:18). “He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:10).

“It is by grace you have been saved…it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 3:8).

Deeper than the ocean and wider than the sea,
Is the grace of the Savior for sinners like me.
Now I’m under His control and I’m happy in my soul,
Just to know that his grace reaches me.
By Whitey Gleason

Thank God for his mercy. Praise God for his grace.

A Study of Depression in the Christian

For the Christian, there are many myths about depression that are widely accepted but are false.
Myth #1 – Depression results from sin or a lack of faith in God.
Myth #2 – The cause of all depression is self-pity.
Myth #3 – It is wrong for a Christian ever to be depressed.

Explanations will follow in future columns.

A Saturday at the Isbells’ Garden House!
Yesterday at noon, Mikey and Allen hosted the meeting for the (Samuel May)Williams-(Gail)Borden Neighborhood Association. People were fascinated in knowing that Broadway Church of Christ met there for two years after Hurricane IKE. Also, they commented on the attractive flower beds and yard. Thanks to Duncan Pharis who has worked very hard to make the yard beautiful. Attending the meeting were Colin, Gracie, Dakota and Sierra Adams (who also live in the Williams-Borden Neighborhood. Councilman Craig Brown (who represents the group at City Council) also attended.
The blooming of the magnolia trees reminds us that Easter is almost here. Then the Galveston Historic Homes Tour and Mother’s Day will follow soon.

Birthday Celebrations!
Bob and Ann Roland send their good wishes to Broadway. Recently Allen and Mikey met them for a dinner to celebrate Bob’s and Mikey’s birthdays (only 4 days apart). Allen and Ann have the same birthday in December. For unknown reason they do not get equal treatment. Those born too close to Christmas Day will understand this maltreatment!!!
